FunkyTown
and Electric Avenue ‘Butt Out for Bucks’ and Raise
Funds for Cancer
Calling All Bars and Restaurants: Sell Your Ashtrays and
Support the Fondation Québécoise du Cancer
Montreal.
June 1, 2006 – Montreal clubs FunkyTown and Electric Avenue,
and in conjunction with the Fondation Québécoise
du Cancer, announced the launch today of a campaign to help
augment the quality of life for people living with cancer, as
well as the new non-smoking laws in the Quebec province. Calling
it ‘Butt Out for Bucks,’ ashtrays remaining in both
clubs will be sold for a $5.00 sponsorship at the door, beginning
Friday, June 2nd and all proceeds will go directly to the Fondation
Québécoise du Cancer.
“We
are extremely proud to be launching this fundraising campaign,”
said George Pappas, co-owner of both clubs. “Approximately
23,500 bars and restaurants are located in the province of Quebec
and most, like in our clubs, have a lot of ashtrays now unable
to use. Thousands of dollars could be raised through the Butt
Out for Bucks campaign, if all Quebec bars and restaurants embark.
“
Marie-Pierre
Grenier of the Fondation Québécoise du Cancer
noted, “the Fondation helps people with cancer and their
families live and cope much better. 38,000 people are inflicted
with Cancer each year and 53% survive cancer more quickly when
their treatment includes better living conditions – something
the Fondation is committed to providing for victims.“
